When Did You Last Feel Like YOU?

There is a question I've been thinking about recently.
When did you last feel like you?
Not the version of you who gets everyone where they need to be.
Not Mum.
Not wife or partner.
Not employee, business owner, daughter, friend, organiser, taxi driver, cook, cleaner or keeper of the family's mental to-do list.
Just you.
It's surprisingly difficult to answer, isn't it?
When life becomes a list of things to do
Sometimes losing touch with ourselves doesn't happen dramatically.
There isn't necessarily one big moment when we wake up and think, I've lost myself.
It happens quietly.
Our days fill up.
There are lunches to make, emails to answer, appointments to remember, washing to sort, people who need us and jobs that need doing.
And somewhere amongst all that noise, the things that make us feel like ourselves begin disappearing.
The walk.
The bath.
The book.
The meditation.
The coffee sitting somewhere quietly.
The music we used to love.
The friend we haven't seen for months.
Or simply ten minutes when nobody wants anything from us.
And eventually we can find ourselves saying:
“I don't even know what I enjoy anymore.”
Self-care shouldn't be another job
There's something else I've noticed about modern self-care.
Sometimes we've turned that into another thing we're supposed to be good at too.
Drink enough water.
Meditate.
Journal.
Exercise.
Eat well.
Get eight hours' sleep.
Practise gratitude.
And suddenly our self-care has become another checklist we're failing to complete.
I don't think that's what we need.
Sometimes what we really need is permission to stop doing.
Why Reiki became so important to me
This is one of the things I love about Reiki.
There is nothing to achieve.
You don't have to be good at receiving Reiki.
You don't have to clear your mind.
You don't have to have a profound spiritual experience.
You don't even have to know what you need.
You can simply arrive.
During a Reiki treatment, you remain fully clothed and rest comfortably while I practise Reiki.
Some people notice warmth or tingling. Some become deeply relaxed. Others simply enjoy having a quiet hour where nothing is expected of them.
Experiences differ from person to person, and that's absolutely okay.
For me, one of the most valuable parts is simply the pause.
An intentional moment that says:
For this hour, I matter too.
You are allowed to receive
I think many of us become very good at giving.
We give our children our attention.
We give our work our energy.
We give our partners our time.
We give friends our support.
And sometimes we're incredibly uncomfortable when it's our turn to receive.
But receiving doesn't make us selfish.
Rest isn't something we have to earn by becoming exhausted first.
Making space for yourself doesn't mean you love anybody else less.
Sometimes it's simply recognising that you are a person within your life too.
Coming home to yourself
That's ultimately what I want Equilibrium Body & Mind to be about.
Not fixing you.
Not turning you into a completely different person.
But creating opportunities to reconnect with the person underneath all the noise.
The woman who existed before today's to-do list.
The woman who still has dreams, preferences, needs and curiosities of her own.
You.
So perhaps this week, instead of asking:
“What else do I need to get done?”
ask yourself:
“What would help me feel a little more like myself?”
Maybe it's swimming.
Maybe it's painting.
Maybe it's walking outside.
Maybe it's sitting quietly with a cup of tea.
Maybe it's Reiki.
The answer doesn't have to be impressive.
It just has to belong to you.
