I have been a serial meditator for the last 7 years! It is so obvious to myself and everyone around me when I skip a day! I'm more stressed, snappy and have way less energy! So because of this, I try to do it everyday even if sometimes it's just for 10 minutes!

Meditating first thing in the morning sets a powerful tone for your entire day — for both your body and mind. Here’s why it’s so beneficial:

For the Mind:

  • Reduces Stress and Anxiety: It helps calm your nervous system before the day’s demands kick in, lowering cortisol levels and creating a sense of balance.

  • Increases Focus and Clarity: Morning meditation clears mental clutter, so you start your day with sharper concentration and better decision-making.

  • Enhances Positivity: It shifts your mindset into one of gratitude, peace, and optimism, which ripples throughout your day.

  • Strengthens Emotional Resilience: When you start your day grounded, you’re less likely to react impulsively to stressors — you respond instead of react.

For the Body:

  • Boosts Energy: Meditation improves oxygen flow and circulation, leaving you feeling refreshed and more awake than a cup of coffee.

  • Lowers Blood Pressure: Consistent practice helps relax the body, reducing physical tension and promoting heart health.

  • Improves Digestion: When you begin the day in a relaxed state, your parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) gets activated, improving gut health.

  • Enhances Immunity: Lower stress and better breathing improve your immune response, keeping your body strong and resilient.

Plus, when you meditate first thing in the morning, you are prioritising self-care — sending a message to yourself that your well-being matters and that you deserve it - which of course you do!

I always recommend starting with just 5 minutes a day first thing as you want to do it long enough that it makes a difference but not too long that it starts to feel like a chore - and then you can build on the practice as time allows.

Soon you'll become a meditation junkie like me where you crave the peace that it brings!
